Yahoo! has temporarily suspended all of its user rooms. This means we are now conducting our counseling in regular Yahoo! Chat rooms.

To join us in our Monday/Friday counseling room, follow these directions. Clicking on the link to the right will open another browser window to take you to Yahoo Chat so you can refer back to this window if you need to.

Through regular Yahoo! Chat:

  1. Go to Yahoo Chat by clicking on the link to the right.
  2. Log in with your Yahoo ID. If you do not have a Yahoo ID, you will need to create one first.
  3. Enter chat.
  4. From any room in chat, change rooms by clicking on the CHANGE ROOM button in the lower left hand corner of the screen. This will open a listing of the major categories of rooms in Yahoo Chat.
  5. From this list, choose RELIGION & BELIEFS. This will open a listing of rooms under that heading in the lower right hand corner.
  6. In the Christian Chat section, choose room 31. If we are not there, keep trying the 30+ rooms. We try to find the smallest one.

Messenger:

1. Go to http://www.yahoo.com and click on the Messenger icon at the top right and download Yahoo! Messenger.

2. Install Yahoo! Messenger.

3. After you install Yahoo! Messenger, open the program up and log in with your Yahoo ID and password.

4. When the program is open, click on the word Messenger at the top of it, and then go down to Yahoo! Chat and then to Join Room.

5. Scroll down the categories to Religion and Beliefs. Then in the right tab, click on the + to open up the list of Christian Chat rooms. Choose Room 31. Click on Go to Room at the bottom.

6. When the screen comes up, click on Enter Chat.

7. If we are not in Christian Chat room 31, try going to room 32. You do this by clicking on the Chat icon and going through the process to choose room 32. If we are not in room 32, try 33. Keep trying one of the 30+ rooms to find us.

OR

Click on the word CHAT at the top of the chat screen and then go down to Go to User. Type in chalkbrd_oam_counselor . This will take you directly to me no matter what room I'm in.

Remember, we are only there on Monday and Friday nights from 8-10 pm eastern time (that's 7-9 central, 6-8 mountain, 5-7 pacific).

Cheetachat is temporarily not working. We are unsure about how long this will be.

Cheetachat:

If you use Cheetachat, you are probably aware that Yahoo is constantly trying to keep Cheeta users out. (They don't like it that Cheeta people don't have to see their ads.) Because of this, if you use Cheeta, you have to do a few more "handstands" to get in than you used to. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Cheetachat.
  2. Where it says "Server Address" type in the following: jcs3.chat.dcn.yahoo.com (you can also replace the number 3 with 1, 2, or 4 if the 3 does not work for you).
  3. Log in as usual and WAIT.
  4. Wait for sometimes a rather long time.
  5. Wait some more.
  6. Cheeta will bring up a log in message saying that you need to log into Yahoo again. Your name is probably there but put in the password and click the OK button.
  7. When the little box disappears, your screen will say that you have logged out of chat. Log back in and it should take you right in.

A quick and easy way to move from room to room is to use an old Yahoo command that takes you directly to another chat ID. This command is typed into the same place you normally type your text for chatting and then you hit enter. It must be typed exactly as you see it below, being careful to use the correct / and spaces. There cannot be a space before the /. (Capitalization is not an issue so it doesn't matter whether you capitalize things or not.) Unfortunately, this feature does not work any more in Yahoo! Messenger (I don't know if it still works in regular Yahoo!...I can't get into that). It still works in Cheetachat, however.
